Even though using less electricity and being environment conscious is the ethos we are trying to work toward, sometimes using the clothes dryer is a necessary evil. I try my hardest to do our washing and hang it where it will be dry by the time it is needed, but unfortunately things happen to side track my best intentions, and clothes (generally for work) need to be dried for wear straight away.
These are a few pointers for using a dryer effectively, to save on time and your clothes:
- Avoid Over-drying
This can cause shrinkage, creasing, fading, yellowing or greying in whites, and unnecessary wear and tear on your clothes. - Don’t Overload the Machine
This will allow enough airflow between the clothes to allow efficient drying. - Check the Drying Instructions
There are many items that shouldn’t be tumble-dried (lycra and fine knits for example) so check the tag that says what the item is able to do. If you desperately need to have them dried, use a delicate and/or cool cycle if you have them. - Clean Your Filters
Try to clean your filter after each use. Filters that are clogged stop your machine working efficiently, and also can become a fire hazard.
