Our First Farm Baby

Just over a week ago, we were surprised at 6:30am by a baby being born on our farm – thanks to Ida! Doing my rounds before heading off to work, I was astounded to see two goats in her enclosure, rather than just the one that I checked on the night before.

When we bought Ida, she was already mated, but the baby was expected around Christmas time – so I’m guessing an earlier mating was actually successful, and her subsequent heat was not a genuine one. Not sure that was a thing, but here we are!

Ida is a wonderful mum, so protective and attentive to her gorgeous baby, who is becoming quite a troublemaker.

We thought there might be at least one more baby born, but we have just been blessed with the one, and a big one she is. A little girl, she is yet to be named – I had no idea it would be so difficult to name a goat.

She loves frolicking in the flowers

I can’t wait to have more babies born on our farm, and I am thankful that goats give birth quite easily and self-sufficiently in most cases. I think we will be having more 🙂
