About

My name is Jess and I live in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, with my partner.

I have always loved food, especially fresh fruit and vegetables. As a child I would wander throughout the house, chomping on a tomato or cucumber, sometimes an apple, and I thought it was the most delicious thing imaginable. As I have grown older, I have lost touch a bit with the freshness of produce due to working full time and other commitments we take on when we grow up. I think this is the case for many people, having become disconnected to where our food actually comes from, apart from the local shops.

This blog is to be all about my love for food and gardening, my start into growing my own, making my own and no doubt I will learn a lot about myself in the process. From fruit and vegetables, to making our baked goods and pasta, it is not necessarily just about the money we could save, but the simple pleasures we seem to have forgotten, like the smell of a baking loaf of bread or homemade passata made from fresh, home-grown basil and tomatoes.

I will also be delving into reducing the amount of waste we produce, buying from bulk stores, re-using where I can, mending rather than throwing away and buying new, and all the other ways that we can reduce our footprint on this wonderful planet.

I hope to recover and develop these lost and forgotten skills, and have as many adventures I can in the meantime. I hope you enjoy what I discover and write about, whilst learning new skills or discovering old ones.

Jess x
